Decaffeinated espresso is possible, and with our selection of green grains, it is also delicious. Freshly harvested coffee from Guatemala is a type of washed processing with a score of 84+ points, grown at an altitude of 1800 meters above sea level and has undergone a modern gentle decaffeination procedure.
Flavor profile: sweet coffee with a dense, rounded body and notes of dried fruits, dark chocolate and spices.
The decaffeination process is carried out in the following way: the grains are exposed to hot steam for about 30 minutes, which allows the grain pores to open. After that, the mixture is treated with the caffeine solvent dichloromethane (CH2Cl2) for about 10 hours. The caffeine removed as a result of the treatment is washed off with water, and the grains are again treated with hot steam under pressure to remove solvent residues. The health risk from the use of dichloromethane is close to zero — the solvent is destroyed at a temperature of 40 degrees Celsius. Due to its volatility during the processing of coffee with hot steam, and subsequently roasting, dichloromethane is removed from the grains by 100%. Finally, at the last stage of the process, the mixture is dried with hot air to 11-13% humidity, then cooled and further polished. The mixture obtained as a result of the process has a brown color, a taste close to the original, and also contains less than 0.1% caffeine (in the original Arabica, the caffeine content is in the range of 1-1.5%).
The decaffeinating procedure was carried out at the factoryCoffein comagnielocated in Bremen. The plant was founded in 1931 by the chemist Erich Scheele, who patented the one-stage extraction method. For nearly a century, Scheele has been producing high quality coffee decaffeinated with ethyl acetate, methylene chloride and carbon dioxide, and is committed to supporting sustainable development initiatives. Coffein Comagnie is a shareholder in the Colombian company Compañia Nacional del Café (CNC), which gives it access to high quality coffee from that country.
Packing options: 250 grams, 1 kilogram and in drip bags. We can grind coffee for any brewing method, just check the Grind checkbox and select the grind size for your brewing method.
Store the coffee beans in a dry place without direct sunlight and grind immediately before cooking. It is best in our zip-fastener pack or in a jar with a vacuum function. Remember: oxygen is the main enemy of coffee, especially if it is ground in advance. If you are going away for a long time, coffee can be frozen once in the freezer.
