The most vivid taste experience in espresso and milk drinks.
Every year we look forward to the fresh harvest from Ethiopia from our favorite farm - Bale Mountain, and every season this farm never ceases to amaze. To get such a bright bouquet, hand-picked ripe coffee berries are fermented in an anaerobic environment and then dried on African beds for several weeks.
Taste profile: velvety enveloping coffee with bright alcoholic notes and a bouquet of wild berries, almonds and tropical fruits.
In terms of growing conditions, Ethiopian coffee can be divided into three groups: forest, garden and plantation. The forest category includes trees growing in forests in natural shade, mainly in the south-west of the country. Garden is the most common type of coffee cultivation, giving the main volume of production. The trees grow next to the farmer's house. There are fewer shade trees, and farmers artificially limit shade by pruning. Fertilizers are used quite often. The Plantation category is relatively rare. Coffee grows on large farms where basic farming methods are used: pruning, fertilizers, mulching, breeding. Therefore, single estate coffee from Ethiopia, that is, coffee from one farm, is relatively rare.
There are quite a few varieties of Arabica growing in Ethiopia, which are usually labeled as local varieties or Ethiopian heritage. As for the climate and landscape, there are mountains in the western part of the country, respectively, the climate is milder, the east is a plateau and more arid. Ethiopian coffee regions – Irgachiff, Sidamo, Limu, Jimma, Lekempti, Harrar. The Sidamo region is also a trademark officially registered by the Ethiopian Government in 2004 in order to promote coffee from the region. Coffee grows at an altitude of 1400 – 2200 meters above sea level. The harvest is harvested from October to January.
Surrounded by forests and two rivers, the Bale Mountain Farm is located in the zone of Western Arsi, Nensebo Woreda, near the river of the same name and the Bale National Park. The soils here are rich in nutrients due to the decomposition products of foliage and plants. Local varieties of coffee grow on the farm — they are well adapted to the local environmental conditions. The Bale Mountain farm is relatively young — it was founded in 2011, belongs to the company Kerchanshe (the company has been exporting African Arabica for more than 15 years).
The Bale Mountains belong to the Bale-Arsi massif, which forms the western part of the southeastern highlands of Ethiopia, whose height reaches 3000 meters above sea level. The farm is located a little lower — at an altitude of 1800-2100 meters, although its territory can be traced to the level of 2400 meters, but coffee is no longer grown here, since it is a state-protected area (a project for the conservation of mountain forests).

Bale coffee is considered eco-friendly: it is produced here using methods that do not harm the environment (economical and careful use of resources /sustainability coffee production). A large number of shade trees grow on the farm.
Local farmers receive various support from the company Kerchanshe: free distribution of coffee seedlings (grown in coffee nurseries on the Bale farm), construction of roads and schools, financial support in the off-season.
Packing options: 250 grams, 1 kilogram and in drip bags. We can grind coffee for any brewing method, just check the Grind checkbox and select the grind size for your brewing method.
Store the coffee beans in a dry place without direct sunlight and grind immediately before cooking. It is best in our zip-fastener pack or in a jar with a vacuum function. Remember: oxygen is the main enemy of coffee, especially if it is ground in advance. If you are going away for a long time, coffee can be frozen once in the freezer.
