The following coffee-producing regions are distinguished in Costa Rica: Central Valley, West Valley, Tarraso, Tres Rios, Orosi, Brunca, Turrialba, Guanacaste. The country promotes coffee under the names of the regions where the coffee was harvested. The cultivated varieties of Arabica: katurra, mundo novo, typica, villa sarchi, catuay and others. Tarrasu is one of the famous coffee regions in the world and a canton of the province of San Jose. Coffee grows between 1200 and 1900 meters above sea level; volcanic soil, rich in minerals. 2000 mm of precipitation falls annually. Harvested from November to March.
CECA SA, founded in 1950, originally exported grain for the Bernhard Rothfos company, and in 1988 became part of the Neumann Kaffee Gruppe. From the first days of its existence, the company has been purchasing berries directly from producers, processing coffee at various processing stations and exporting mainly to the USA, Europe and Japan. CECA currently owns two processing stations and prepares grain for export under its own brands.
