Seasonal harvest from Brazil of natural processing from the state of Minas Geiras from farmers united by the Expocasser cooperative, which we visited as part of a trip to Brazilian farms in 2023.

About the cooperative

The farmers' cooperative of producers of the Cerrado Expocasser region was founded in September 1993, due to the desire of the producers of the region to organize a common warehouse for storing coffee. The first warehouse was built to store 180,000 bags. Today, the turnover of warehouses with a fully automated sorting station reaches about 1,000,000 bags per year.

Today, Expocasser is the largest cooperative in the Cerrado Mineiro region and the second largest in the country. It belongs to the most modern coffee farms in Brazil. It consists of more than 500 farms and more than 4,500 producers who collect 5 million bags per year on an area of 200,000 hectares. Moreover, Expocasser is the world's first coffee cooperative with a certified origin (D.O.), which allows you to trace the entire history from the sprout to the cup. The expocasser is diverse and unites different groups of farmers: producers with Rainforest Alliance Certified and UTZ certificates, Café do Cerrado and Fair Trade (Appcer).

The region is famous for its stable ecosystem, and farmers are efficient and innovative in their work. Coffee from the Cerrado region is famous for its dense body and chocolate-caramel flavor, with a characteristic floral aroma, notes of red wine and lemon peel in the aftertaste.

About the country of growth

Brazil is the world's largest coffee producer. The share of Brazilian coffee in the international market is one third of the global production volume. Arabica is mainly grown in the regions of Minas Gerais, Sao Paulo, Bahia, Matas de Minas, Prana. The equatorial climate prevails in the north of the country, tropical in the central part, and temperate in the south. The main varieties of Arabica for Brazil are bourbon, tipica, mundo novo, katuay, maragojip. The Cerrado Mineiro region is a globally recognized place for the production of high-quality coffee - the first "Name of Origin" in Brazil, located in the north-west of the state of Minas Gerais.

The presence of well-defined seasons - hot, humid summers and pleasant dry winters - is a striking characteristic of the region. Coffee plantations are grown at an altitude of 800 to 1300 meters above sea level, resulting in high-quality coffee with a unique personality.

Each bag contains 12 grams of coffee, which allows you to prepare 190-210 grams of the drink. Just put it on a high cup and pour in 92-96 °C water in a thin stream 3 times 70 grams until the water flows completely. You can find more detailed instructions in our article.
